Meet the Author

Lt. Gen. Kanwal Jeet Singh "Tiny" Dhillon

PVSM, UYSM, YSM, VSM (Retd.)

Commissioned into the Indian Army in 1983, Lt. Gen. "Tiny" Dhillon served for nearly four decades across combat zones and senior command and administrative appointments — completing eight tenures in counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations, six of them in the Kashmir Valley.

Career highlights:

  • Director General, Defence Intelligence Agency under the Chief of Defence Staff, until superannuation in January 2022
  • Commander, 15 Corps (Chinar Corps) on the Line of Control — through the Pulwama attack, the Balakot air strikes, and the abrogation of Article 370
  • Architect of "Operation Maa," a landmark peace initiative that brought 50+ Kashmiri youth back from terrorism — now a documentary screening in 170+ countries
  • Alumnus of the National Defence Academy and National Defence College; holds an MSc, MPhil and PhD
  • Currently Chairperson, Board of Governors, IIT Mandi — appointed by the President of India
